Xi pledges a China-Cambodia security partnership, reaffirming support for Cambodia’s sovereignty while strengthening strategic cooperation and combating online fraud together.
Speaking during talks in Beijing with Hun Sen, president of Cambodia’s Senate, Xi said China and Cambodia should strengthen coordination as the regional and global landscape continues to face growing uncertainty.
According to China’s state news agency Xinhua, Xi stressed that closer cooperation between the two countries would help promote stability, peace and development across the region.
The Chinese leader reaffirmed Beijing’s longstanding support for Cambodia, describing the country as a key priority in China’s neighbourhood diplomacy. He said China would continue backing Cambodia’s efforts to safeguard its sovereignty, security and national interests.
Xi also called for stronger strategic trust between the two governments, urging both sides to elevate their political and security cooperation to a higher level.
During the meeting, Xi praised Cambodia’s campaign against telecom and online fraud, pledging that China would work closely with Cambodian authorities to eliminate the criminal networks behind such activities.
Hun Sen is visiting China from June 25 to June 27 on what Beijing has described as an official goodwill trip.
The latest talks follow the inaugural meeting of the China-Cambodia “2+2” Strategic Dialogue Mechanism in April, when the two countries’ foreign and defence ministers met to expand cooperation on political and security affairs.
