A member of the House of Representatives representing Otukpo/Ohimini Federal Constituency of Benue State, Hon. Onyeche Blessing Onuh, has appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to urgently deploy more security personnel to halt the renewed killings in parts of his constituency.
The lawmaker, who also chairs the House Committee on Land Transport, made the appeal in a letter dated July 28, 2026, titled “Urgent Appeal for Presidential Intervention to Stop the Ongoing Massacre and Renewed Killings in Otukpo/Ohimini Federal Constituency of Benue State.”
Onuh lamented that despite sustained military successes against insurgency and banditry in other parts of the country, communities in Otukpo and Ohimini continued to suffer coordinated attacks, resulting in the death of over 50 residents within one month.
She listed the affected communities as Otukpo-Nobi, Akpachi-Ugboju, Agadagba and Efeyi, saying many others sustained injuries while several persons remain missing.
According to him, hundreds of residents have fled their homes, abandoning farms and other means of livelihood due to persistent attacks.
The lawmaker said although he had sponsored motions in the House of Representatives, addressed press conferences and engaged security stakeholders, the attacks had continued unabated.
She urged President Tinubu to immediately approve the deployment of a Joint Task Force comprising the military and police with a permanent operational base in Otukpo and Ohimini.
Onuh also requested sustained intelligence-led operations to identify and prosecute those behind the attacks, humanitarian assistance for displaced persons and the speedy establishment of the proposed Otukpo Army Barracks.
She expressed optimism that swift presidential intervention would restore peace and enable displaced residents to return to their homes.
