Kano Government hands Dangote Foundation control of skills centre for 20 years to expand vocational training opportunities for youths.
The Kano State Government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Aliko Dangote Foundation for the takeover and management of the Aliko Dangote Skills Acquisition Centre for 20 years.
The agreement is aimed at repositioning the centre and expanding its role in providing entrepreneurial and vocational training opportunities for youths across the state.
This was disclosed in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Governor’s Spokesman, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa.
The MoU was signed at the Office of the Secretary to the State Government, with the state government represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Umar Farouk Ibrahim, and the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Barrister Abdulkareem Maude.
The Aliko Dangote Foundation was represented by its Programme Manager (North), Alhaji Sanusi Abdulkadir, and Programme Support Officer, Mustapha Umar.
Speaking during the signing ceremony, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, who was represented by the SSG, said the foundation’s involvement would drive development at the centre and across the state.
Governor Yusuf said the foundation had the technical and managerial expertise required to transform the centre into a leading institution for entrepreneurial and vocational training.
He said the foundation could help make the centre “one of the leading entrepreneurial and vocational training institutions in Nigeria and the West African sub-region.”
The governor said the decision to transfer management of the centre followed deliberations by the State Executive Council, which approved the arrangement to ensure the adoption of best practices in vocational training.
Yusuf also expressed confidence that Aliko Dangote, whom he described as one of the sons of Kano State, would contribute his expertise and resources to developing the skills and entrepreneurial capacity of young people in the state.
The agreement gives the Aliko Dangote Foundation responsibility for managing the centre for the next 20 years, with the state government seeking to maximise its potential as a hub for skills development.
