Security agencies rescue 20 prospective NYSC corps members abducted in Imo State after six days, with victims receiving medical attention.
Twenty prospective NYSC corps members abducted in Imo State have been rescued by security agencies after six days in captivity.
The victims were rescued at about 4:28pm on Wednesday at Amakohia Ubi Village in Imo State following sustained search-and-rescue operations by the Nigeria Police Force, DSS, military and other security agencies.
The prospective corps members were abducted on 1 October, 2026, while travelling through the state.
According to a statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Anietie Iniedu, the rescue followed sustained operational coordination and collaboration among the security agencies involved in the operation.
The victims have since been taken for medical examination and necessary medical attention as part of the post-rescue process.
The security agencies are also continuing efforts to apprehend the suspects responsible for the abduction.
The police said operations have been intensified to track down those behind the incident and bring them to justice.
The Nigeria Police Force thanked members of the public for their cooperation and support, while reiterating its commitment to protecting lives and property and responding promptly to threats to public safety.
The police said further updates would be communicated as necessary.
