Suspected SDP Supporters Disrupt APC Campaign Rally In Nasarawa As Sule Orders DSS Probe

Suspected SDP supporters disruptan APC campaign rally in Lafia as Governor Abdullahi Sule orders a DSS investigation into the incident.

Youths suspected to be supporters of the Social Democratic Party SDP, governorship candidate and former Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu-Abubakar, have allegedly disrupted an All Progressives Congress APC, campaign rally in Lafia, the Nasarawa State capital, ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The campaign rally was organised to mobilise support for APC candidates contesting the presidential, governorship, senatorial, House of Representatives and State House of Assembly elections.

The incident reportedly began when Governor Abdullahi Sule, alongside other governors from the North-Central zone and the Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum, Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma, mounted the podium to canvass support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s second-term ambition.

The disruption prompted security operatives to intervene and disperse the suspected hoodlums, forcing the event to a halt as party stakeholders and other participants scrambled for safety.

Our correspondent reports that Vice President Kashim Shettima, who represented President Bola Ahmed-Tinubu at the rally, was joined at Lafia Square by party’ governorship candidate, senator Ahmed Aliyu-Wadada, the APC National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, to mobilise support for President Tinubu and other APC candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Meanwhile, the Nasarawa State Government has directed the Department of State Services DSS, to immediately commence a full investigation into the incident, identify those responsible and ensure that the perpetrators and their sponsors are brought to justice.

This was contained in a statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Barrister Shuaibu Magaji-Labaran, and made available to our correspondent in Lafia.

The statement alleges that the incident was a deliberate act of recklessness aimed at showing disregard for constituted authorities and the exalted office of the Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

While describing the incident as unfortunate and unacceptable, the government urged residents of Nasarawa State to remain law-abiding and continue with their daily activities peacefully.
