Ex-Governor Abubakar Defeats Tuggar To Win APC Bauchi Governorship Ticket

Former Bauchi governor Mohammed Abubakar defeats ex-foreign minister Yusuf Tuggar to secure APC governorship ticket in statewide primary.

Former Governor Mohammed Abubakar has secured the governorship ticket of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the 2027 election in Bauchi State, defeating former Minister of Foreign Affairs Yusuf Tuggar and five other aspirants.

The results of the APC governorship primary election announced on Saturday showed that Abubakar polled 57,517 votes to emerge the party’s candidate.

Tuggar came second with 26,001 votes, while Nura Manu Soro secured 13,638 votes. Bala Wunti recorded 13,648 votes and Kabir Ma’aji polled 8,157 votes.

Announcing the outcome of the exercise, Chairman of the APC Governorship and House of Assembly Primary Committee in the state, John Abang, said Abubakar won after results from across the state were collated.

Abang said Abubakar had therefore been declared the party’s flagbearer for the 2027 governorship election in Bauchi State.

Tuggar resigned from his position on March 30 following President Bola Tinubu’s directive requiring political appointees seeking elective offices in 2027 to step down from their appointments.Faridah Abdulkadiri
