Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Council, Comrade Grace Ike today led a chorus of tributes to her younger brother, Emeka Ike, as he marked his 40th birthday, describing him as a humanitarian par excellence whose calm humility and steadfast commitment to service have earned widespread respect.
In a statement on Tuesday Comrade Grace Ike praised Emeka’s decades long dedication to journalism, gender advocacy and community development.
“Emeka is a rare blend of professional excellence and heart-led service,” she said.
“He gives generously of his time and resources, not for applause but because he believes deeply in lifting others. That sense of duty, combined with his quiet humility, makes him a model for our profession and our community.” she added
A committed proponent of gender equality, Emeka is a fierce advocate of the HeForShe movement, actively promoting male engagement in the fight for women’s rights and inclusion.
He has partnered with women’s groups and media organisations to amplify female voices, champion equal opportunities, and organise public conversations that challenge harmful norms.
Colleagues note that his advocacy is practical and sustained leadership.
Beyond advocacy, he has supported mentorship programmes for young media practitioners, backed health and wellness initiatives just like his younger brother Dr Emmanuel Ike and funded educational projects in underserved communities.
Close associates describe him as calm in crisis, deliberate in decision-making, and consistently focused on tangible outcomes for vulnerable groups.
Always dedicated to his goals to contribute his quota to National development
“His humanitarian work is not occasional charity; it is a sustained commitment,” Ms. Grace Ike said.
Whether organising skills workshops, supporting community health drives, or quietly assisting families in need, Emeka shows up.
He leads without fanfare and measures success by the lives he touches.”
As he enters his fifth decade, Ms. Grace Ike offered a personal blessing: “May this new chapter bring you robust health, renewed vision, and even greater platforms to serve. Keep your feet on the ground and your hands ready to help. Nigeria needs more leaders like you. Happy 40th, Emeka. We celebrate you with pride.”
