Their efforts yielded positive results the same day as the stolen vehicle was successfully traced and recovered from one Blessing Ohwobete (M) of Dutse Alhaji – Abuja.

ARREST OF SUSPECTED ARMED ROBBERY/CULTISM SUSPECT AND RECOVERY OF ARMS

On the 13th of March, 2026, at about 08:30AM, police operatives attached to Maitama Division, while conducting routine stop and search patrol around Diamond Junction Wuse II, Abuja, sighted dark colored Toyota Corolla approaching the Police barricade at high speed. All efforts made to flag down the vehicle proved abortive as the driver ran through the barricade in a bid to avoid search.

The Police operatives, however, gave him a hot chase in their patrol vehicle, eventually double crossing and bringing the vehicle to a stop. The driver quickly disembarked from the vehicle, opened fire on the operatives and attempted to escape the scene.

The Police team responded with superior firepower, overpowered and arrested the suspect who was identified as Abiola Yakubu, 45 yrs old.

A search conducted on the suspect led to the recovery of a locally made pistol with one expended cartridge in his possession.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect is a member of a cult group and that he bought the locally made firearm found on him from his gang member named “Jasper”.

The Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Miller G. Dantawaye psc., has ordered a detailed investigation into the case to identify the source of the firearm and apprehend other members of the cult gang who are currently at large.

Upon sighting the police team, the suspects immediately sped off and threw away a bag before escaping the scene. The bag was promptly recovered by the operatives.

A search of the bag led to the recovery of one pistol with six (6) rounds of live 9mm ammunition, one locally fabricated gun with three (3) cartridges, one wire cutter, and one cutlass.

Efforts are currently ongoing to trace the source of the firearms and apprehend the suspects who are at large.
