Tears In Ogbomoso As Slain Teacher Buried After Deadly Oyo School Attack

Mourners gathered in Ogbomoso to bury teacher Joel Adesiyan, killed during last week’s deadly school attack in Oyo.

Family members, colleagues and sympathisers on Friday gathered in Ogbomoso, Oyo State, to bid farewell to Joel Adesiyan, one of the teachers killed during last week’s deadly attack on schools in the state.

The funeral service for the late teacher was held at Ayegun Baptist Church in Ogbomoso, where grieving relatives, friends and associates paid their last respects amid tears and emotional tributes.

Photographs from the ceremony showed mourners consoling members of Adesiyan’s family as his remains were brought into the church for burial rites.

Adesiyan, who served as an assistant headmaster at Community High School, Ahoro-Esiele, was killed on April 15 when heavily armed gunmen riding motorcycles invaded communities along the Ahoro-Esiele/Yawota axis in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.

During the coordinated attack, the assailants abducted dozens of students and seven teachers from Community High School, Ahoro-Esiele, L.A. Primary School, Esiele, and Yawota Baptist Nursery and Primary School.

Adesiyan and a commercial motorcyclist were reportedly shot dead during the invasion.

Governor Seyi Makinde had earlier disclosed that seven teachers were abducted during the attack, while another teacher, Michael Oyedokun, was later killed in captivity.

Public outrage intensified earlier this week after a disturbing video surfaced online showing Oyedokun tied to a tree and beheaded by his captors.

The viral footage triggered widespread condemnation on social media and renewed concerns over the safety of the remaining abducted victims.

Meanwhile, uncertainty continues to surround the fate of those still in captivity, as the Oyo State Government and the police on Thursday dismissed reports claiming that the abducted teachers and students had regained freedom.

Authorities insist that rescue efforts are ongoing as residents and families of the victims continue to await positive developments.
