First Lady Aisha Buhari has urged wealthy Nigerians to support the on-going effort at providing a conductive learning environment for children with special needs in the country.
Buhari made the call on Thursday when she visited the site of the on-going construction of a befitting school for children with special needs located in Galadimawa area of Abuja.
The News Agency of Nigeria NAN reports that the on-going project is sponsored by the Future Assured programme of the Aisha Buhari Foundation.
The project which has been under construction for five months, when completed will provide a fitness centre, Aqua-pool therapy, sensory integration playroom and assessment centre when completed.
The first lady said the school is meant to cater for children that have learning difficulties and visually impaired children among others.
“ This school is therefore equipped to meet the academic, social as well as emotional needs of the children with needs.
While expressing satisfaction with the level of work done so far, the first lady said the school will provide a conducive learning environment for children between the ages of 2 and 18 years as well as adults of 25 years.
She also informed the gathering that a service of International trained specialised on children with special needs has been engaged to manage the school for effective service delivery.
“ At the moment we have engaged Irish and British instructors on children with special needs.
“ They are going to be in Nigeria very soon to take over the school as instructors to ensure that the right standard and management are adopted in the school“ she said.
